Honors Chemistry

Honors Chemistry is a first year chemistry course designed for students who have demonstrated strong ability in previous science courses. In this comprehensive and fast paced class, the main topics--which include atomic theory, nomenclature and formulas, chemical reactions, stoichiometry, periodicity, solutions, gases, reaction kinetics, equilibrim, acids and bases, redox chemistry,  and nuclear chemistry--are studied at an advanced level, with a focus on both conceptual understanding and problem solving.  Quantitative aspects of chemical analysis are emphasized throughout the course.  Laboratory experimentation, either in person or virtual, is an integral part of this course.  Students are expected to work cooperatively in both lab and classroom settings and to take individual responsibility for meeting the objectives of the course.  This course is especially well suited for students considering careers in science, engineering, or medicine.
